Dawn a long term carer for her adult son who is suffering from mental health issues, she struggles to support her son. Dawn tells Anita, ‘if my son had a physical disability, he would get more help’. She has had to give up work, to provide support and supervision for her adult son; she struggles to get him out of the house for appointments and feels that the medical organisations are waiting for something serious to happen before he gets more help. The day-to-day job of caring was wearing her down, but thanks to Carers in Bedfordshire, Dawn is now receiving some self-care and counselling. This is helping her – help her son.
