1st to 7th June is Volunteer Week, and the 17th to the 23 June is Refugee Week.  Brenda, a retired teacher, explained to Anita from Bedford Radio how rewarding and purposeful befriending the residents of Yarl’s wood, Yarl’s wood a Detention Centre for asylum seekers and an immigration removal centre. Brenda visits weekly and has been volunteering for 3 years.  She was awarded Volunteer of the Year by Yarlswood befrienders, for all her commitment and hard work.  Here in the interview, she explains why she wanted to volunteer and have a positive impact on others,  and also describe the impact on herself.  As Brenda once felt that her life had less purpose,  but now she feels more fulfilled and rewarded.
